PROJECT OVERVIEW
Project Concept & Abstract
In video processing, motion processing is one of the important segments, because of its ability to efficiently compress data. It's also reasonably simple to implement motion processing in hardware design. The overall goal of this project is to design, implement, and test the motion estimator from HDL (hardware-description language) to GDS (global-distribution system) in 14nm CMOS technology.
Key Objectives
- Design and implement a motion estimator in 14nm CMOS technology
- Achieve 15 frames per second (FPS) performance target
- Optimize power consumption and area efficiency
- Complete verification through comprehensive testbenches
- Deliver from RTL to GDS implementation
Technical Approach
The project follows a systematic approach from high-level design to physical implementation. We begin with RTL Verilog coding and comprehensive verification, followed by synthesis and timing analysis. The design then progresses through physical design including placement, clock-tree synthesis, and routing, culminating in final verification using industry-standard tools like Synopsys PrimeTime.
Expected Outcomes
Upon completion, this project will deliver a fully functional motion estimator capable of real-time video processing at 15 FPS, with optimized power consumption and minimal area footprint. The implementation will serve as a comprehensive case study in advanced CMOS design methodologies and verification techniques.
